Meet the MAC Staff

 

Stephan CurrieStephan Currie, Executive Director

Stephan Currie became MAC's fourth executive director since 1968 on Jan. 1, 2017. Currie began his service at MAC as deputy director in 2011. As deputy director, Currie led MAC's daily operations, plus spurred new initiatives such as CoPro+, a collaborative purchasing program for public entities. Currie also has led a new program where MAC is assisting Wayne County with modernizing its procurement efforts.

In September 2017, Currie was named the Strategic Association Leader for 2017 by the Michigan Society of Association Executives.

Prior to joining MAC, Currie was operations manager at Comfort Research in Grand Rapids. He graduated from Hope College with a degree in business administration and has an MBA from Michigan State University.

Deena BosworthDeena Bosworth, Director of Governmental Affairs

Deena Bosworth joined MAC in 2011 and became director of governmental affairs in December 2013. Bosworth previously served as director of legislative relations for the Michigan Attorney General's Office, as assistant county administrator with the Charlotte County Board of Commissioners in Florida and as legislative director and senior policy adviser for the Michigan House Republican Caucus.

She has a BA in anthropology from Western Michigan University.

Derek MelotDerek Melot, Director of Communications and Marketing

Derek Melot joined MAC in 2014 after a long career in print and digital journalism. In addition to editing and columnist postings at newspapers in Oklahoma, Texas and Michigan, Melot was the first editor of the digital news site Bridge Magazine and served as senior editor for Public Sector Consultants, the Lansing-based research firm.

He holds a BA in political science from the University of Oklahoma and did graduate work at the University of Vermont on the American political system.

Yvonne DzurkaYvonne Dzurka, Officer of Financial & Administrative Services

Yvonne Dzurka joined MAC in 1985 and became the Officer of Financial & Administrative Services in August 1995. Yvonne acts as the recording secretary for the MAC Board of Directors, the MACSC Board of Directors and the Michigan Counties Workers' Compensation Fund Board of Trustees. She also provides administrative support for the Michigan Association of County Administrative Officers).

Yvonne's roles at MAC have included conference coordinator, work on Michigan Counties, MAC's newsletter and executive secretary to two MAC Executive Directors.

Chris JonesChris Jones, Governmental Affairs Associate

Chris Jones joined MAC in April 2017, following an extensive career in the Michigan Legislature. Jones most recently served as a policy adviser in the House Republican Policy Office, focusing on local government and transportation. He also worked for several legislators between 1998 and 2014.

He holds a BA in public administration from Michigan State University.

Meghann KeitMeghann Keit, Governmental Affairs Associate

Meghann Keit joined MAC in September 2017 from the office of Sen. Jim Stamas. Keit also worked for Stamas when he served in the Michigan House and for the Midwest Strategy Group in Lansing, where she was a legislative analyst.

She has a BA from Michigan State University and in spring 2017 was a policy fellow at the Center for Healthcare Research and Transformation at the University of Michigan.

Gabriel ZawadzkiGabriel Zawadzki, Director, Grant Services Program

Gabriel Zawadzki joined the MAC Grant Services Program in 2007. He has helped counties manage more than $5 million in EPA brownfield grants, including development of expense tracking and web-mapping GIS tools. Gabriel's other roles at MAC have included photographer, GIS mapping, technology support, social media and newsletter layout. He previously served two years with AmeriCorps in the Michigan Groundwater Stewardship Program.

He holds an AAS in environmental technology from Baker College and a BS in environmental science and planning and resource ecology from the University of Michigan.

Kristina GarnerKristina Garner, COBRA/BCBSM Coordinator

Kristina Garner joined MAC in February 2006 and became the administrator of Blue Cross Blue Shield/Blue Care Network (BCBS/BCN) benefits for several Michigan counties and county entities. She assists in their enrollment processing, billing, payments and reports, plus works as a liaison between counties/county entities, BCBS/BCN, insurance agents and COBRA participants. She also provides office support to the MAC staff.

 Peggy CantuPeggy Cantu, MACSC Sponsored Program Liaison

Peggy Cantu joined the MAC Service Corporation as sponsored program liaison at the end of 2016.

Cantu has been in the benefits profession for more than 25 years, spending the bulk of her career working for large carriers such as The Travelers, Priority Health and Aetna. She is a licensed health and life agent and previously worked for A J Gallagher as an account manager. Cantu grew up in Alto and still lives there today.

 Michael RuddockMichael Ruddock, Governmental Affairs Assistant

Michael Ruddock joined MAC in 2018 as governmental affairs assistant after graduating from Michigan State University's James Madison College with a degree in social relations and policy. Ruddock previously was a community organizer for organizations such as Michigan Clean Water Action and The Sierra Club, working on natural resource protection and environmental advocacy. Ruddock is also a member of the City of Lansing Parks Board.

 Karen CoxKaren Cox, Executive Assistant

Karen Cox joined the MAC staff in August 2017, just prior to the association's move to its new downtown Lansing location. Prior to joining MAC, Cox worked as a legal assistant with the law firms of Kronzek & Cronkright, PLLC and Phelps Law Office, PLC, and as a member service specialist at Astera Credit Union. She holds an associate degree in business administration from Davenport College.
